Inventiveness runs in Peter Studer’s blood: he already developed two auxiliary devices for the agriculture. So he came to Nozag with his latest project, a cow lift. His mobile lift is intended to help veterinarians and farmers to lift a downer cow at most different locations. This mobile device must therefore be light for easy transport and manual assembly. The cow lift is assembled directly above the cow and has to lift the about 800 kilograms heavy animal also in the open country. The issue was: “What is the easiest way to solve the lifting function?»
- Lightweight for manual assembly and transport
- Drive without power source
- Very low, jerk-free and gentle lifting movement
- All in all maintenance-free, robust
The solution
Of course, this situation can be solved with a traditional, manually-operated hoist. But the goal was also to require less muscle strength. So, the two lift straps have been fastened on connecting shafts driven by worm gears. Optimally dimensioned, lightweight worm gears have been mounted on the front and on the back. The two worm gears can be controlled very precisely to achieve a quiet, jerk-free movement. Muscle strength is replaced with a cordless drill that drives the worm gear via a flexible coupling. Various test operations and the first small series have demonstrated the success of this development in practice. Peter Studer received another innovation award for this new invention, the mobile cow lift, at the Suisse-Tier trade fair.
- Worm gear, compact and lightweight construction
- Flexible coupling to transmit the movement
- - Uniform, smooth lifting movement
- Lowest effort needed
«I was impressed by the expertise and solution-
orientation of the advice, which supported and
influenced my development.»
